Rockefeller, the American oil magnate and one of the wealthiest men of his time. Rockefeller, then 78 years old, chose this as his winter residence and would spend many of his later years here, contributing to the local culture and community.
Rockefeller was known for his love of golf, often playing at the nearby courses, and for handing out dimes to locals—a gesture that became a part of local folklore. His residence at The Casements also attracted notable visitors such as Henry Ford, Harvey Firestone, and Will Rogers.
The mansion has seen several transformations over the years, reflecting the changing times and needs of the community. After Rockefeller’s passing in 1937, The Casements became a girls’ preparatory school and later a home for the elderly. The property fell into disrepair over the years until the City of Ormond Beach purchased it in 1974. Following a detailed restoration, it reopened in 1979 as a cultural and community center.
