Shafer Tower

Shafer Tower stands proudly in the center of Ball State Universitys campus, a 150-foot tall testament to the power of vision and determination. Conceived by Eric Ernstberger from Rundell Ernstberger Associates, this iconic landmark pays tribute to Hamer Dwight Shafer and is Indianas tallest bell tower. With its elegant limestone facade and striking glass and steel elements, Shafer Tower truly comes alive under the warm embrace of the suns rays, casting mesmerizing shadows that dance across the campus grounds.

The base of this architectural marvel houses a carillon with 48 custom-made bells, each producing a unique tone to create a soothing symphony that fills the air and transports listeners to another realm. Accompanying these melodic chimes is a charming chiming clock, which keeps time for those who traverse the bustling campus. As visitors ascend the spiral staircase within Shafer Tower, they are greeted with an overwhelming sense of awe and wonder at the sheer scale of this feat. The air is filled with the faint scent of history, as though the walls themselves whisper tales from long ago.

Standing on the observation deck atop Shafer Tower provides a breathtaking panoramic view of Muncie, Indiana, unfolding below like a patchwork quilt. This symbol of unity and tradition on Ball State Universitys campus serves as a constant reminder that great things can be achieved when we dare to dream big. As we make our way back down to ground level, the spirit of Hamer Dwight Shafers legacy lives on within these walls, inspiring future generations of students and faculty to achieve greatness.
