The Promised Land is a captivating historical landmark situated at 4500 Anderson Livsey Ln, Snellville, GA 30039. Once part of a vast 1000-acre plantation that relied on slave labor, it later transformed into the hub of the African American community in the area. This property is owned by the distinguished Livsey Family and features an impressive 7-acre lakefront site.
In the early 20th century, the patriarch of the Livsey family purchased this piece of land along Lee Road in Snellville. However, a recent proposal to develop the 100-acre property was thwarted when Gwinnett County abandoned its plans for domain acquisition. One of the most notable structures within the Promised Land community is the Maguire-Livsey House, colloquially known as The Big House. This historic gem was acquired by Gwinnett County six and a half years ago with the intention of converting it into a noteworthy historical site.
In addition to these fascinating landmarks, the Promised Land Community hosted an event on April 23, 2022, in celebration of the BlackGwinnett Magazine. This publication is dedicated to supporting black-owned businesses in Gwinnett County. Furthermore, a few steps away from The Big House lies the old Thomas McGuire House, nestled at the intersection of Lee Road and Centerville Hwy 124 in Snellville, Georgia.
These captivating sites and events all contribute to the rich history and legacy of Promised Land, making it an intriguing destination for anyone interested in uncovering the stories of Americas past.
