The Piedmont Manufacturing Company, founded by Henry Hammett, grew into one of the worlds largest textile plants under his visionary leadership. This mill, constructed in 1905, is listed on the National Register for its significant historical background, standing as a testament to our nations industrial past.

Unfortunately, a fire in 1983 led to the decline and closure of this once-thriving plant. But hope was not lost. In 1987, a new addition was built following tax credits and imagination, breathing life back into this historic property. The Archives Center possesses an extraordinary collection of architectural drawings of late 19th-century textile mills, known as the Lockwood-Greene Collection.
