Ozark Trail Obelisk

The Ozark Trail Obelisk stands tall as a historical monument located in Farwell, Texas. Established in 1913, this iconic structure was part of the original Ozark Trail system that marked its routes with a series of green and white obelisks stretching from Missouri to New Mexico and Texas. Serving as an essential connection between these states, the trails operation came to an end in 1926, but some replicas and remnants can still be found along the old route today.

Standing at a majestic 66 feet tall, one such example of the Ozark Trail Obelisks is located at a TA truck stop in Oklahoma City. Another obelisk can be found on a horse ranch near Stratford, Oklahoma after being exhumed from beneath the street in pieces in the early 1980s. Further along the trail, seven original trail markers still remain in Stroud and Langston, Oklahoma. Finally, a rare 21-foot stone obelisk that marked the intersection of Ozark Trails roads stands proudly at the eastern end of the route in Missouri.

Together, these remnants of the past serve as a testament to the rich history of the Ozark Trail Obelisk and its significance in connecting distant states across Americas vast landscape. As you walk among these historical markers on your tour, envision the travelers who once navigated this trail, their stories echoing through time with each step you take.
