Spanning an impressive 80 acres, Old Memphis Cemetery was originally purchased for $500 each by fifty Memphis gentlemen in 1852. The space expanded after the Civil War, becoming a garden cemetery with unique attributes such as well-manicured gardens, stately features, park-like settings, shady knolls, ancient trees, and magnificent views.

One of its most intriguing features is the Necropolis of Memphis, which contains six small black graves from the time of King Amenhotep II. These graves convey the cemeterys Outstanding Universal Value, setting it apart from other garden cemeteries. Founded in 2011, these cemeteries are noted for their pastoral landscaping, scenic viewpoints, ancient trees, and beautiful memorials.

In recent years, Old Memphis Cemetery has been neglected, but an historical marker was erected at the entrance in 2013 to help preserve its rich history.
