The Old Burlington Methodist Church is a stunning example of architecture from a bygone era, with its Greek Revival-Gothic Revival transitional style featuring a gable roof and gable-end orientation. Built in 1837, the church has undergone significant remodeling over the years, most notably in 1923 when it received a late Gothic Revival makeover. Its long history within the Burlington community dates back to its founding in 1835 when Joseph and Catharine Foster deeded a town lot to the Trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and continues up until its conversion into an antique shop in 1992. The church now stands within the Burlington Historic District, which covers a gridded rectangle of 74 acres encompassing the entire original town. As you wander these historic streets, imagine the countless souls who have gathered within the churchs walls over nearly two centuries, and feel connected to this place that has played such an important role in shaping the community we see today.
