Welcome to Mission Nuestra Senora de la Candelaria Historic Marker located in Rockdale, Milam County, Texas. Their goal was to bring both civilization and Christianity to the Coco, Mayeye, Orcoquiza, Karankawa, Tonkawa, and other tribes that inhabited this land.

The original mission was unfortunately abandoned in 1769, but it didnt stop there. The spirit of this place remained strong as the mission was reestablished in 1762 on the Sabinal River with the same name, Nuestra Senora de la Candelaria. This time, its aim was to convert the Lipan Apaches.
