Merizo Bell Tower

The Merizo Bell Tower, also known as Kampanayun Malesso, is a remarkable historical landmark located in Guams southern region along Guam Highway 4. Constructed between 1910 and 1919 under the supervision of Father Cristobal de Canals, this stone and cement structure once served as an essential means of communication, announcing religious events, town meetings, and mass. The tower is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and stands as a symbol of Guams rich cultural heritage, showcasing the Spanish-era architecture that characterized the region during its construction. Restorations of both the Merizo Bell Tower and the Malesso Kombento (the home of the parish priest) provide visitors with an engaging glimpse into Guams past and a deeper understanding of this captivating island paradise.
