The story of Kimberly Crest begins with Mrs. Cornelia Hill, the original owner who commissioned the house after being inspired by a French castle she visited in Europe. Designed by the prominent architectural firm Dennis and Farwell, the mansion was constructed for about $10,000, a significant sum for the time. Situated atop a hill, the estate offers breathtaking views, and its surroundings were meticulously crafted by horticulturalist Franz P. Hosp.
In 1905, the property was acquired by Helen Cheney Kimberly and her husband John Alfred Kimberly, a co-founder of the Kimberly-Clark paper company. The Kimberlys expanded the estate, adding the now-renowned Italian Renaissance gardens with the help of their son-in-law, architect G. Edwin Bergstrom. These gardens, completed in 1909, feature intricate pathways, koi ponds, and statuary, including the notable ‘Venus Rising from the Sea’ fountain.
