Italian Hall Historical Marker

The Italian Hall Historical Marker in Calumet, Michigan, stands as a solemn reminder of a tragic event that unfolded on Christmas Eve, 1913. Seventy-three souls, over half of whom were children, lost their lives in a terrible tragedy at the hall during a crowded union meeting. The building served as a hub for Italian organizations and played host to various events and activities. Tragically, the Italian Hall was demolished in October 1984; however, its significance was not forgotten. In 1987, a state historical marker was erected at the site to preserve the memory of that fateful night. As of 2010, the park features the entrance arch and several historic markers placed on the lot, creating an evocative environment for visitors to pay their respects and learn about this important chapter in history.
