High Rock Lookout

High Rock Lookout is a hiking area situated in Lewis County, Washington, near Ashford. It offers breathtaking, 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape and is part of Gifford Pinchot National Forest. The trail to the summit is moderately steep but relatively short, covering a distance of 1.6 miles and featuring an elevation gain of 1236 feet. High Rock Lookout stands at an altitude of 5,685 feet, providing panoramic views that extend over a hundred miles. The lookout cabin clings to the top of this prominent peak on Sawtooth Ridge. High Rock is approximately a 40-minute drive from Ashford and can be accessed by taking NF-52 (Kernahan Highway). Historically, High Rock housed a manned fire lookout before vandalism forced it to close. Today, the location remains an iconic destination for hikers seeking stunning views and a taste of history.
