The original building was replaced by a new one after it met its unfortunate end in a fire in 1908.

With just one public school available during Dentons early days, it was quite an event when 425 students enrolled at the opening in 1884.
The marker itself is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, placed on the south side of Congress St., between Denton St. and Mounts Ave., and right next to the north end of DISDs Calhoun Middle School.
