However, Wills was driven by a vision to create something uniquely his own, leading to his departure from Ford in 1919 with a severance package of $1.5 million.
With these funds, Wills founded his own automotive company, C.H. Wills & Company, in Marysville. The factory opened in 1921, and soon after, the first Wills Sainte Claire automobiles rolled off the production line. These cars were a testament to Wills’ commitment to quality and innovation, featuring advanced engineering concepts and a sleek design. The use of molybdenum steel in their construction set them apart from their contemporaries, making them highly durable and luxurious.
