His success allowed him to purchase land and establish SaJo Farms in Virginia.
Sam’s connection with Ocracoke began in 1939 when he visited the island with his wife, Mary Ruth Kelly, who had familial ties to the area. Captivated by the island’s charm, Jones decided to invest in the community, constructing Berkeley Manor to entertain friends and business associates. His passion for Colonial Revival architecture is evident in the buildings he commissioned on the island, employing local craftsmen and providing employment for the residents.
