The 1960s saw the introduction of chairlifts and snowmaking, while the ’70s brought national attention through George’s daughter, Cindy Nelson, a National and Olympic ski champion who trained on these very slopes. In 1980, the baton was passed to Charlie Skinner, a visionary in the ski industry. Charlie more than doubled the skiable terrain and installed the Midwest’s only gondola, further cementing Lutsen’s status as a leading ski area.
