Lake Saint Louis

Welcome to Lake Saint Louis, a unique blend of history, community, and recreation in the St. Louis metropolitan area. Originally envisioned as a weekend getaway, this locality has transformed into one of the most desirable residential communities in Missouri. Let’s journey through its past to understand how Lake Saint Louis came to be.

The story begins in 1961 when Ellis Ellerman and Ira Nathan embarked on an ambitious project to create a private resort community. They dreamed of a serene weekend haven with a large recreational lake, close enough to the bustling city of St. Louis. This vision materialized into the Trails Lake Development Corp., and the project was initially named ‘Lake Saint Louis.’ However, financial difficulties plagued the early developers, leading to a foreclosure in 1966.

Enter R.T. Crow, a visionary investor who saw more than just a weekend retreat. Inspired by the concept of planned communities, Crow took over the project and transformed the vision into a new town. He laid the groundwork for what would become a thriving city, with the St. Charles County approving the preliminary plan in 1967. By 1969, the smaller Lake Sainte Louise and several community amenities, including golf courses and a clubhouse, were established.

In 1975, Lake Saint Louis was officially incorporated, providing a new framework for growth and development. The name was retained, and it marked the beginning of its journey as a full-fledged city. Over the decades, Lake Saint Louis has seen significant expansion, driven by the westward development of St. Charles County. Today, it is known for its well-maintained parks, golf courses, and healthcare facilities, making it a sought-after place to live.

Lake Saint Louis also holds a special place in the hearts of its residents, who have maintained its roots as a vacation destination. The city’s commitment to greenery has earned it recognition as a ‘Tree City USA,’ reflecting its dedication to creating a sustainable environment.

From its humble beginnings as ‘Harbor Town,’ Lake Saint Louis has evolved into a vibrant community, offering both the tranquility of lakeside living and the convenience of urban amenities. As you explore this area, remember the pioneering spirit of those who built it and the continued efforts of its residents to preserve its charm and vitality.
