Welcome to the Krug Activity Center, a cornerstone of community history in Kyle, Texas. This building, originally constructed in 1912, served as the Kyle City Hall and stands as a witness to the town’s evolution over more than a century. Situated on a parcel of land that was designated for a public square in the original town plan, the center has been a hub for various activities over the years.
In its early days, the building was more than just a governmental seat; it served as the high school auditorium until 1937, playing a significant role in the education of local youth. When the town’s Baptist church burned down, the congregation was welcomed here for Sunday services, rotating later with the local Methodist church. This cooperation reflects the spirit of community that Kyle has cherished throughout its history.
The center’s historical significance was recognized nationally when it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 22, 2002. However, in 2007, it ceased to serve as the city hall and was transformed into an activity center, primarily catering to seniors and community events. In 2017, it was renamed in honor of John P. Krug, a long-serving local law enforcement officer and city official who lived across from the center and had a deep personal interest in its preservation.
Today, the Krug Activity Center continues to be a lively venue, hosting various community events and activities. It stands not only as a piece of history but as a living part of the Kyle community, adapting to meet the needs of its people while preserving the echoes of the past.
