Welcome to the Kannapolis African-American Museum and Cultural Center, Inc. (KAA-MaCC), a vibrant hub dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich African-American heritage of Cabarrus and Rowan Counties in North Carolina. Founded in 2013 by Dr. Ruby L. Anthony-White, a descendant of former slaves, KAA-MaCC was born out of a vision to create a space that honors the legacy of African-Americans in the region. Dr. Anthony-White, a native of Kannapolis, was inspired by the stories of resilience and achievement within her own family and the broader community. The museum began as an idea to bridge communities through inclusiveness and engagement, and it has grown into a cornerstone institution with the help of passionate donors, volunteers, and local partnerships.

One of the key initiatives of KAA-MaCC is the Vision 2026 Initiative, which aims to establish a state-of-the-art museum and cultural center by 2026. This initiative is not just about creating a physical space; it’s about fostering economic development, community engagement, and social justice. Vision 2026 will house exhibitions like ‘Women of a New Tribe,’ celebrating the contributions of African-American women, and will continue to expand educational programming across the region.

The museum also publishes ‘Who’s Who in Cabarrus-Rowan Magazine,’ a biannual tribute to local African-American excellence. The magazine highlights trailblazers such as Mrs. Ollie Mae Carroll, a revered educator whose legacy has shaped countless lives. These stories serve as vital chapters in the region’s historical narrative, ensuring that the achievements of African-Americans are celebrated and remembered.

As you explore KAA-MaCC, you’ll find that it is more than just a museum; it is a living testament to the past, present, and future contributions of African-Americans. The museum invites everyone, from local residents to visitors from afar, to join in celebrating the diverse and rich heritage that it represents.
