In 1952, the Morris family took over, expanding the menu to include classic Southern fare such as chicken, fish, and meatloaf. It became a popular gathering spot where locals would congregate outside to chat and catch up on the latest news. Fast forward to 1994, and the Morris family passed the torch to Melissa and Doug Ferguson. With a vision to transform the establishment, they renamed it Doug’s Place, expanded the menu, and created a bustling eatery known for its ‘meat-and-three’ offerings – a Southern tradition of one meat and three side dishes.

This restaurant has been a constant in the rapidly changing landscape of Emerson, as the encroaching sprawl of Atlanta brought new developments and challenges. The community has always held a special place in its heart for Doug’s Place, seeing it as a stable, comforting presence amid change.

In recent years, the restaurant has seen new ownership under Mark Sullins, who has committed to preserving its legacy while introducing modern upgrades.
