This park covers 20 acres of the original 463 acres of the California Nursery Company, which was established in 1884. The story begins with John Rock, who founded the nursery in the late 19th century, making it one of the largest nurseries in the United States at that time. It quickly became renowned for its wide variety of plants, including roses, fruit trees, and ornamental plants. The nursery played a pivotal role in the development of the horticultural industry in California.
In 1917, the nursery was purchased by George C. Roeding, a prominent name in the horticultural world. Under his leadership, the nursery expanded its operations and became a vital supplier of plants not only locally but across the country. Roeding’s efforts helped cement the nursery’s place as a cornerstone of agricultural innovation.
Over the decades, the nursery has witnessed numerous changes and developments. During the early 20th century, it transformed from a purely agricultural space to one that attracted visitors with its beautiful display gardens.
