Welcome to the historical heart of Parker, Colorado, where the story of Dr. Walter Heath and the Ruth Memorial Chapel unfolds. This location holds a special place in the town’s history, marking the dedication and vision of Dr. Walter Heath, one of the early trustees who played a pivotal role in the establishment of Parker’s first church.
In 1912, Dr. Heath, alongside George Parker, generously donated land for the building site that would become the Ruth Memorial Chapel. This chapel was named in memory of Dr. Heath’s daughter, Ruth, who tragically passed away at a young age. Construction of the chapel began in February 1912 but, sadly, Dr. Heath did not live to see its completion, as he passed away in March of the same year. Despite this, his legacy continued to resonate throughout the community.
The chapel itself became a landmark, hosting countless events and serving as a backdrop for the community’s gatherings. It was so cherished that it earned a place on the National Register of Historic Places, ensuring its preservation for future generations.
Dr. Heath’s contributions were later commemorated with a memorial statue, unveiled on May 25, 2010, as a tribute to his impact on the town. This monument was made possible through the efforts of his grandchildren and local community members, including Parker Adventist Hospital and local business owners.
Today, the chapel and the memorial serve as reminders of Dr. Heath’s commitment to community and faith, illustrating the enduring spirit of Parker’s early settlers.
