The land for this historic church was deeded by Joseph and Elizabeth Adams for a modest consideration of five shillings, a gesture that set the foundation for what would become a cornerstone of the local Methodist community. On January 9, 1793, French balloonist Jean Pierre Blanchard completed his historic flight from Philadelphia, landing in Deptford Township, not far from this monument.
